Dutch Meat Loaf

Chow - Chow Onion Patties

 

E-Z Chocolate Brownies

1 pkg. 2 layer chocolate cake mix 17 1/2 oz. can chocolate pudding
1/2 cup chopped nuts 1/2 - 3/4 cup chocolate chips
Combine cake mix and chocolate pudding until well blended.  Pour into greased and floured 9x13x2 cake pan.  Sprinkle with nuts and chips.  Bake at 350 deg. for 35-45 minutes.

 

Dutch Meat Loaf
   
Mix meatloaf ingredients well and
form into loaf.
1 medium onion
1 cup bread crumbs
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1 egg
1 can tomato sauce
2 lbs. hamburger


Mix sauce ingredients and pour
entire mixture over the meat loaf.
2 tsp yellow mustard
2 tsp white vinegar
2 tsp molasses
1 cup water
1/2 cup tomato sauce
   
Bake covered at 350 degrees for about 1 1/2 hours. Baste the meatloaf periodically with the juices in the pan.

 

Chow-Chow

Cut up everything.  
   
1 head cabbage 1 qt. white vinegar
1 stalk celery 2 qt. sugar
10 onions 2 heads cauliflower
6 red bell peppers 2 bags lima beans
2 bags carrots 1 lrg. jar yellow mustard
12 green bell peppers green tomato - optional
   
  1. Cook carrots and limas separately.
  2. Let everything but carrots and limas stand overnight.
  3. Put 3 handfuls of salt in each of two pans overnight with vegetables divided equally between pans.
  4. Next day - Drain and rinse and drain and rinse.
  5. Cook with water not quite covering.
  6. Bring to a boil then add 1 qt. vinegar and 1 qt. sugar and 1/3 jar of mustard to each pan.
  7. Let cook on medium until cauliflower is soft.
  8. Add beans and carrots and let it come to a boil.
  9. Jar mixture.
  10. Follow safe canning procedures.

 

Onion Patties

3/4 cup flour 1 tablsp. cornmeal
1 tablsp. sugar 2 teasp. baking powder
1 teasp. salt 3/4 cup milk
1-1/2 cups chopped onions fine  

 
  • Mix dry ingredients together and add milk.
  • Batter should be thick.
  • Add onions and mix.
  • Drop by spoonfuls into deep fat.
  • Flatten slightly when you turn them.
